In this series, we\u2019ll be sharing snapshots of work in progress and how we\u2019re solving problems real-time for our clients.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re redesigning the website of a large Midwest county government, bringing County, Parks, and Library together under one roof. Each has its own brand identity, web strategy, and story. They share an audience but struggle to engage that audience across brands. For nearly a decade, they\u2019ve shared an aging SharePoint site that\u2019s done more to limit communication with residents than support it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team is approaching the work from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clockwork.com\/services\/strategy-innovation-change-enablement\/\">strategy<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clockwork.com\/services\/experience-design\/\">design<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clockwork.com\/insights\/what-is-change-management\/\">change enablement.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opportunity is to build something flexible, a system that holds three distinct brands without flattening them into one. That\u2019s the tension at the heart of this work: creating <strong>cohesion without compromise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-design-challenge\">The design challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Right now, we\u2019re focused on navigation and hierarchy. Distinct brand stories, but with the benefit of a shared design language to bridge audiences between them. That\u2019s the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just a branding problem. It\u2019s about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clockwork.com\/insights\/digital-for-all-accessibility-wcag-2-2\/\">accessibility<\/a> and clarity. Today, the search input changes. The navigation moves. People have to guess which brand they\u2019re interacting with. The redesign solves for that. The information hierarchy will stay consistent while color and brand graphics are seamlessly interchanged. Every page clearly signals <strong>where you are and what you can do next.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s what cohesion looks like in practice: not rigid sameness, but controlled flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-we-re-learning\">What we\u2019re learning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This work reminds us that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clockwork.com\/insights\/design-systems-finding-the-balance-between-innovation-and-efficiency\/\"><strong>design systems are communication systems<\/strong>.<\/a> They\u2019re not just collections of buttons and components; they\u2019re frameworks for how people tell stories together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inside the county, each department has learned to work around its tools, asking, \u201cWhat can I wedge into this template?\u201d<br>Our job is to shift that question to, \u201cWhat does my audience need?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That shift takes more than design. It takes trust, flexibility, and support, so our designers are working closely with our change enablement team. Because in the end, systems don\u2019t just shape websites; they shape how people work together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-next\">What\u2019s next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re in Sprint 2 of 4. Navigation patterns are taking shape. Search behavior is being mapped to real data. We\u2019re creating components that enable authors to tell stories that will resonate with residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up: refining the visual system to bring each brand\u2019s personality forward while keeping everything aligned and accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We\u2019re reducing complexity to communicate better.<\/strong> That\u2019s what good design does.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A one-minute look at work in motion.
